Here in Texas, when the bugs come out every year, they REALLY come out. Enjoying the outdoors is something Austinites love to do, however the bugs tend to dampen the fun. To stay away from toxins, Shreya is sharing her DIY bug spray/mosquito repellent that she makes for herself.
witch hazel or vodka
neem oil
carrier oil (olive, jojoba, coconut, etc.)
essential oil (lavender, cedarwood – something to make the spray smell nice)
- Fill a 4oz - 8oz spray bottle half way with witch hazel or vodka
- Add 2 teaspoons of carrier oil and 2 tablespoons of neem oil.
- Add essential oil drops
- Shake well before each application
Neem oil is a natural insect repellent and the secret weapon in this bug spray! In 1959, after a plague of locust, the only greenery left untouched was the Indian Neem tree. This powerful tree holds many benefits including keeping the pesky bugs away!
