Household Habits to Kick to the Curb for a Cleaner, Healthier Home

Household Habits to Kick to the Curb for a Cleaner, Healthier Home

3 minute read

Spring cleaning is quickly approaching and while we all have routines that we follow without thinking, when it comes to keeping a home clean, certain habits may actually be making things harder in the long run! This year, we’re saying goodbye to a few cleaning missteps and making room for better choices that support a healthier home – something we’re all about here at Hyve.

1. Letting Clutter Pile Up Before Cleaning

I used to think I needed a major mess before tackling the cleaning process. But waiting until everything is out of control only makes the job feel overwhelming. Now, focusing on small, daily resets - wiping counters as I go, putting things back where they belong, and making quick sweeps through each room to keep messes manageable.

2. Using Harsh Chemicals for the Sake of "Clean"

Before Hyve, there was a time when I believed strong chemical smells meant a surface was truly clean. But the reality? Many conventional cleaners contain toxins that linger in the air and on surfaces, exposing my family to unnecessary risks. Switching to Hyve’s probiotic cleaner has been a game-changer. It not only cuts through grime but continues working long after I’m done - without the negative repercussions.

3. Ignoring High-Touch Surfaces Until They Look Dirty

Light switches, remote controls, and door handles don’t always show dirt, but they’re some of the germiest spots in the home. I’ve started incorporating these into my regular cleaning routine instead of waiting until they look like they need attention, or when someone is sick. A quick spritz with Hyve keeps them fresh and helps prevent the spread of unwanted bacteria. Hyve is especially helpful in these areas because they continue fighting the harmful bacteria for up to five days between cleanings.

4. Overloading My Cleaning Routine with Too Many Products

My cabinet used to be filled with bottles for every surface - glass, counters, wood, bathroom tile, you name it. But simplifying my routine with a true multi-purpose cleaner, a probiotic one in my instance, means I need fewer products, and I can clean more efficiently. Plus, fewer harsh ingredients in my home means cleaner air for my family. And it made under the sink way less crowded!

5. Skipping Routine Deep Cleans

It’s easy to focus on the visible mess and forget about the hidden grime building up in less obvious places - under appliances, inside cabinets, or along baseboards. This has been harder for me to adopt because these areas feel so daunting.  But instead of waiting for spring cleaning, we’ve started setting a reminder to tackle one deep-cleaning task every few weeks. A little extra attention to these overlooked areas keeps our home feeling truly fresh year-round.

By making these small changes, our home not only looks better, but it feels fresher, too. A healthier clean is possible without the toxins, the stress, or the unnecessary clutter - just a simple shift in habits.
